Batt’s research examines the political economy of labor – with an emphasis on the relationship between regulation and new forms of ownership – including private equity, franchising, outsourcing, and subcontracting of work in low wage service industries. Recent research focuses on the processes and outcomes of financialization in healthcare. She has a new book, co-authored with Eileen Appelbaum, coming out in Fall 2026 from Princeton University Press, Healthcare in the Age of Finance Capital: Private Gain from Public Goods.
