Modern Conflicts: Major Violent Conflicts Since the End of the Cold War

April 2007

Since the end of the Cold War in 1989, millions of people have lost their lives in violent conflicts around the world.

The Modern Conflicts Database is a tool for researchers and students who want learn more about these conflicts. PERI's Modern Conflicts Database has profiles of all post-Cold War conflicts with estimated death tolls of 25,000 or more, with references to further information sources. These can be accessed via the table, which ranks conflicts by total estimated deaths, or via the map, which shows the locations of war-torn countries.
