"Global Inflation Today" Conference Papers

Global Inflation Today: Myths vs Reality

Papers from the December PERI inflation conference include these topics: the main current inflation drivers; the relationship between inflation, economic growth, and the Fed’s 2% inflation target; inflation in the care sector; identifying systematically significant prices for inflation control; and the Fed’s real aims with inflation policies.  The American Prospect is publishing a series of shorter non-technical articles based on conference themes, including, thus far, “The Inflation Numbers Game” by James Boyce, “2% Inflation Target Harms Growth” by Robert Pollin and Hanae Bouazza and “Inflation in an Unequal World” by C.P. Chandrasekhar and Jayati Ghosh.

On December 2-3, PERI hosted a conference to explore the causes of this global inflation spike. Conference participants provided critical perspectives on the austerity macroeconomic policies being implemented globally to control inflation and proposed alternative policies capable of managing inflation without imposing austerity and rising mass unemployment. Below are an initial set of conference papers. We will continue to add to the remaining papers in the coming weeks.
